First team picture! Several of our members are missing.

Hello Pender Friends and Family!

We have created this blog in order to keep everyone informed and up to date about the details of our short term mission trip to Poland.

First of all, we would like to provide a little insight into our trip. Our team of 20 members from Pender UMC will be traveling to Ostroda, Poland in July. The purpose of our trip is to build relationships with Polish youth ages 12-16 through sharing our faith while playing sports. We will be participating as the “coaches” for several different sports, including softball, baseball, basketball, tennis and football.

A typical day in our trip would include the following:

  • A team devotional to start our morning
  • Breakfast with the campers
  • 90 minute sports session led by our team
  • Short break
  • 90 minute sports session led by our team
  • Lunch
  • Free time (this would include optional crafts provided for the campers by our team, an optional conversational English class for the campers also provided by our team, swimming in the lake, playing ping pong, playing pick-up games of other sports such as volleyball or soccer, etc.)
  • Dinner
  • “Ice Breaker” game led by our team
  • Evening worship service led by the Polish camp leaders

The campers are able to chose two of the sports we offer to participate in throughout the week.

Our main role in this trip is to provide the sports instruction and to build relationships with the campers. The Polish camp leaders provide devotionals for the campers every morning, as well as planning the evening worship services, which are typically related to the morning devotional. In the past we have had at least one of our team members share their personal testimony with the campers at the evening worship service, and we have found this is a great way to build our relationships with the campers.

This is a very brief summary of our trip, as I could write volumes describing what an amazing experience this trip has been for everyone who has participated in the past. If you are interested in learning more about our trip, PLEASE ask anyone who has gone in the past, we would all love to share our stories! Stay tuned to this blog for more information and stories once we are en route in July!
